At Wilderness Bride, each dress is crafted with care and precision. To ensure the best possible fit, it’s important that we have accurate measurements—especially if your gown is made-to-order or bespoke.
Whether you're working with us remotely or preparing for a fitting, here’s how to take your bust, waist, and hip measurements at home with a tape measure.
How to Measure Yourself
You’ll need:
A soft measuring tape (not a metal one)
A mirror to check your positioning
Ideally, someone to help you
Wear light clothing or well-fitting underwear for the most accurate results.
Bust
What to measure: The fullest part of your bust.
How to do it:
Stand straight with your arms relaxed at your sides.
Wrap the tape around your back and across the fullest part of your bust.
Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight.
Make sure it’s straight across your back and parallel to the floor.
Tip: Wear a non-padded bra for best accuracy.
Waist
What to measure: Your natural waist—typically the narrowest part of your torso.
How to do it:
Stand up straight and bend slightly to one side. The crease that forms is your natural waistline.
Wrap the tape around this point, roughly just above your belly button.
Hold the tape comfortably—not too tight or loose.
Hips
What to measure: The fullest part of your hips and bottom.
How to do it:
Stand with your feet together.
Wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your hips and bum.
Make sure the tape is straight and parallel to the floor.
Helpful Notes
Take each measurement twice to be sure it’s accurate.
Record in inches or centimetres, and be consistent.
Don’t pull the tape too tightly—it should lie flat against your skin but still move freely.
