Edinburgh Styled Shoot: An Ethereal Elopement Amidst the City’s Historic Charm

Edinburgh Styled Shoot: An Ethereal Elopement Amidst the City’s Historic Charm

During our first Edinburgh pop-up bridal event, we had the opportunity to collaborate with a team of incredibly talented local suppliers to bring to life a styled shoot that embodied the spirit of our brides and the city itself. The theme? A dark, ethereal, and regal elopement in the heart of Edinburgh, with a touch of Victorian elegance and otherworldly charm.

Reaching Out to New Suppliers

With the pop-up event set in such a rich and historic city, it only made sense to reach out to Edinburgh-based suppliers who could help us capture the unique essence of this place. We carefully curated a team whose talents aligned with our vision. From the florist, who specializes in using native Scottish flowers, to a seasoned photographer who knows Edinburgh like the back of their hand, each collaborator brought something magical to the table.

Crafting the Concept: Elopement in the City

The vision for the shoot came together through a series of conversations, sketches, and ultimately, a mood board that guided our creative process. We wanted to highlight the romance of an intimate elopement against the backdrop of Edinburgh’s iconic architecture and secret nooks. Think enchanting cobblestone streets, hidden doorways, and atmospheric passages that seem to transport you back in time.

The color palette for the shoot leaned into rich, moody tones—deep plums, earthy greens, and touches of gold—enhanced by the florist's selection of native Scottish blooms. She incorporated wild heather, thistles, and ferns, which added texture and authenticity to the arrangements, perfectly complementing the natural yet dramatic feel we were after.

Organising the Shoot: Behind the Scenes

We scouted key locations around the city, ensuring that each would evoke a sense of both grandeur and mystery. From the towering spires of the Royal Mile to the more secluded passages near Edinburgh Castle, the city itself became as much a character in the shoot as the model bride. Our photographer, with their knowledge of Edinburgh’s hidden gems, was invaluable in finding spots that captured the Victorian, otherworldly mood we envisioned.

Despite being surrounded by tourists—many of whom congratulated our model on her "wedding"—we were able to create an intimate, almost cinematic atmosphere. And of course, the weather played its part in bringing that typical Scottish touch. Cold and windy, with moody skies overhead, it was the perfect backdrop for our dark ethereal concept. The model’s windswept hair and flowing gown gave the photos an extra element of drama, making the day feel even more magical.

A Mix of Digital and Film Photography

The photographer chose to use a combination of digital and film photography to capture the shoot, which added depth and richness to the final images. The digital shots allowed for capturing every little detail of the setting, while the film photography provided a timeless, dreamlike quality. The grainy, textured finish of the film perfectly complemented the Victorian, regal atmosphere we wanted to create.

A Successful Collaboration

Pulling together a shoot like this while organizing a pop-up event wasn’t without its challenges, but the collaboration between our team and local suppliers made it all worth it. The results were nothing short of breathtaking. We captured the essence of an Edinburgh elopement—equal parts romantic, mysterious, and utterly captivating.

A huge thank you to our Edinburgh suppliers for their talent and vision, and to the photographer for their expertise in capturing the magic of the city. We can’t wait to share more images from the shoot and continue working with such a wonderful creative community.
